Gain more control/consistency by getting taller and closer to the ball. Your arm and shaft of the club should almost create a straight line. Once you start to see the heel of the clubface rising off the ground you know that you are now close enough to the ball. Since you are now closer this will cause you to move you’re hands down towards the shaft.
In order to eliminate hitting thin chip shots, we need to eliminate the wrists from flipping or hands from getting in from of your body on the follow thru. One easy way to hit better shots is by work on having a low follow thru. Place a tee in the ground about a foot in front and make sure that your club stays low enough to the ground on the follow thru to move the tee. If you hit the tee you accomplished your goal and as a result you will make better contact.
Select the correct club for the desired distance. The game becomes easier if you make the same distance stroke for a long or short shot by choosing the right club. For longer chip shots select a higher club like an 8 or 7 iron. For shorter shots select a lower club like a PW or Lob wedge. Don’t try to create a shot!
